DIN 933 and ISO 4017
DIN 933 / ISO 4017 identifies fully threaded metric hexagon head screws. DIN 933 is the former German designation still commonly encountered in drawings and purchasing specifications. ISO 4017 is the international successor standard.
When replacing DIN 933 with ISO 4017, the specified edition and head dimensions should be checked. JENPEX prepares B2B quotations against the required diameter, length, property class, material, finish, quantity and documentation. The options below do not confirm stock availability for every combination.

Property classes, stainless steel and finishes
Property class 8.8
Steel fastener with a nominal tensile strength of 800 MPa and a nominal yield-strength ratio of 0.8.
Property class 10.9
High-strength steel fastener with a nominal tensile strength of 1,000 MPa and a nominal yield-strength ratio of 0.9.
Property class 12.9
High-strength steel fastener with a nominal tensile strength of 1,200 MPa and a nominal yield-strength ratio of 0.9. Suitability must follow the joint design.
Stainless steel A2-70
Austenitic A2 stainless steel; property class 70 denotes a minimum tensile strength of 700 MPa within the applicable scope of ISO 3506-1.
Stainless steel A4-70
Molybdenum-bearing austenitic A4 stainless steel with improved resistance in chloride-bearing and more demanding corrosive environments.
Zinc plated and HDG
Zinc plated normally means an electroplated zinc coating. A hot-dip galvanized coating is thicker, so thread allowance and the mating nut must be coordinated.
Standard dimensions
The table lists standard combinations of nominal thread size and nominal screw length from the current ISO 4017:2022. Not every metric diameter is included in the standard, and each listed thread size has its own permitted standard-length range.
Sizes marked non-preferred appear in brackets in ISO 4017. The table describes standardised dimensions, not JENPEX stock. Availability of a particular size, property class, material and finish is confirmed on enquiry.

If the required combination is absent, such as M19 or M8 × 180, it is not a standard ISO 4017:2022 combination. Contact JENPEX to check another standard, a special configuration or manufacture to specification.
Typical applications
- machinery, production equipment and industrial assemblies,
- steel components, brackets, covers and flanges,
- joints requiring thread along the full shank length,
- maintenance, repair and replacement after verification of the standard and dimensions,
- series production and B2B supply against a drawing, bill of materials or technical specification.
Technical information
Which DIN 933 / ISO 4017 thread sizes are standard?
ISO 4017:2022 covers metric coarse threads from M1.6 to M64. From M4 upwards, the preferred sizes are M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12, M16, M20, M24, M30, M36, M42, M48, M56 and M64; other sizes shown by the standard are identified in the table as non-preferred.
Is every metric diameter an ISO 4017 size?
No. ISO 4017 uses a defined series of thread sizes. A diameter omitted from the standard tables is not a standard ISO 4017 size.
Why is M19 not listed?
M19 is not included among either the preferred or non-preferred thread sizes in ISO 4017:2022. An M19 requirement should be checked against another standard, a drawing or a special-manufacture specification.
Is every nominal length standard for every thread size?
No. Each thread size has its own shortest and greatest standard nominal length. For M8, ISO 4017:2022 lists a standard range from 16 mm to 80 mm, so M8 × 180 is not a standard combination under this standard.
What should I do if the required size is not in the table?
Send JENPEX the required thread size, length, material, property class, finish and quantity. We can check an alternative standard or a special-manufacture option; this does not imply stock availability.
